North Rhine-Westphalia: Seriously injured driver only found hours after the accident

Nideggen (dpa / lnw) – After an accident in the district of Düren, the seriously injured driver was accidentally discovered by cyclists at the scene of the accident. The man had probably spent the whole night there in severe pain. The 31-year-old probably got off the road with his car on the L218 between Nideggen-Schmidt and Hürtgenwald-Vossenack late on Saturday evening, the police said on Monday. The car came to rest on its roof about 150 meters from the country road – and was difficult to see from the road.

From the position of the tracks, it was possible to determine that the vehicle initially drove on the sloping serpentine road and then, for reasons that have not yet been clarified, left the roadway in a sharp right turn. He first drove through a depression in the embankment, crashed into a fence post and then drove down a steep meadow slope, where he may have rolled over several times. As the police also announced, the vehicle was not visible to passing road users due to the sloping terrain and high vegetation.

The two attentive cyclists discovered the car and the man lying next to it on Sunday morning and informed the police. Due to the severity of his injuries, a police interview was not possible. A rescue helicopter brought the 31-year-old to a clinic.
