North Rhine-Westphalia: State parliament pays 150,000 euros for hotel costs for MPs

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) – Last year, the state parliament paid around 150,000 euros for MPs to stay in hotels in Düsseldorf. The state parliament announced this at the request of the German Press Agency.

The background: MPs who have their constituency outside of Düsseldorf can, for example, stay in a hotel on plenary days. The politicians’ own contribution is 35 euros, the rest is covered by the state parliament. However, without breakfast or minibar.

According to a spokesman, the state parliament assumes 1,500 overnight stays per year. For this purpose, the administration concludes framework agreements with 4-star hotels – usually near the state parliament. The hotels have to guarantee that the politicians will also be accommodated during trade fairs. Because it is often difficult to get a room in Düsseldorf.
