North Rhine-Westphalia: Two supermarket robberies within an hour

Recklinghausen (dpa / lnw) – Two supermarkets in Recklinghausen were robbed within an hour on Monday evening. “It’s strange,” said a police spokesman. According to the police, there are two different perpetrators.

Around 8:00 p.m., a man dressed in black and wearing a mask entered a supermarket in Recklinghausen, not far from Autobahn 2. He threatened an employee with a gun and fled on foot after she had given him cash from the till. The perpetrator’s voice sounded youthful, the police said.

Less than an hour later, a hooded man robbed a supermarket in Herten-Disteln – just a twelve-minute drive from the first crime scene. He also threatened a cashier with a gun and demanded cash. When the woman didn’t react quickly enough, the perpetrator opened the cash register with a screwdriver, took the cash and fled on foot. He is said to have been 30 to 35 years old, the police said. Both perpetrators initially fled.
