Panama: conservative José Raul Mulino elected president

The conservative José Raul Mulino won the presidential election in Panama on Sunday, May 5, with 34% of the votes, 9 points ahead of his closest competitor, who admitted his defeat, announced the president of the Electoral Tribunal.

“I have the pleasure, on behalf of the Electoral Tribunal, to inform you that (…) you have won the presidency of the Republic” of Panama, declared Alfredo Junca during a telephone call broadcast live on television. “I recognize the elected president of the Republic of Panama, Mr. José Raul Mulino,” said former consul Ricardo Lombana (center right), who came in second place, to his supporters.
