Pension reform: Macron's popularity down sharply

The debates on the pension reform will not have made it possible to reconcile the French with their political staff… on the contrary. According to the latest Ipsos-Le Point barometer, the two executive figures are judged harshly by their opponents, but also, more unexpectedly, by their usual electoral supporters.

Why should the majority be worried? “Discontent is widening in its own camp”, notes Federico Vacas, deputy director at Ipsos Public Affairs, who notes a significant drop in support for Emmanuel Macron from supporters of LR (- 7 points) and Renaissance (- 9 dots). The executives, traditionally acquired by the majority, are also in doubt as to the presidential action (- 10 points). “But it is especially with the most modest incomes that he loses the most”, explains the pollster.

The retirement match did not allow the opposition to reap any benefits. Of the 39 personalities tested in our barometer, 29 are down. The most significant decreases concern first of all the members of the majority (François Bayrou, Marlène Schiappa). No opposition personality is doing well: Jean-Luc Mélenchon is stable when Olivier Faure loses 4 points. One of the main faces of the reform, Olivier Dussopt, sees his image deteriorate with a surge in unfavorable opinions on his action (16 points).

Survey carried out on a national representative sample of the French population of 1,003 people aged 18 and over, questioned by Internet on February 24 and 25, 2023. Quota method.

Like most members of the executive, the government spokesperson is seeing his support seriously eroded, particularly among the middle classes represented in our survey by employees and intermediate professions. In the latter categories, it fell by 11 and 12 favorable opinion points respectively. The flip side of a large media presence.
