Retirement: is there a pension ceiling?

The time for retirement has come and, despite sometimes tedious administrative procedures, it is important to be able to calculate the amount of your pension early enough. To be sure you get the right amount after your retirement, do not hesitate to consult your career statement and correct it if necessary. But is there a pension limit that you cannot exceed?

As an employee of the general scheme, it is not possible to exceed a certain retirement amount. For example, in 2024, for employees, the basic pension is limited to 1,932 euros gross per month, which corresponds to 50% of the monthly Social Security ceiling. As noted by La Retraite en plain, “to benefit from such a maximum retirement pension, the retiree must have received an annual income equal to (or greater than) the amount of the Social Security ceiling, for 25 years”.

In certain cases, the maximum monthly pension of 1,932 euros may be exceeded by an increase. This is, for example, possible if you work over the age of 64, if you have had three children or if you are disabled. For supplementary pension, a theoretical maximum is not specified, but the calculation rules create a threshold. For 2024, it is therefore not possible to contribute more than 30,912 euros gross per month, or 370,944 euros per year, the equivalent of eight times the Social Security ceiling. This represents 83,735.98 euros in contributions to pay to obtain 3,358.56 points, or 4,755.39 euros.
