Saxony-Anhalt: amusement tax revenue increases by 141 percent in Saxony-Anhalt

Halle (dpa/sa) – The municipalities in Saxony-Anhalt collected 7.8 million euros in entertainment tax in the first three quarters of 2022. That was around 4.5 million euros more than in the same period last year, as the State Statistical Office in Halle (Saale) announced on Monday. Accordingly, the deposits increased by 141 percent and were 11 percent below the level of the pre-corona period. The tax is levied, for example, when attending dance events, commercial film screenings or casinos.

In the first three quarters, the urban districts took in around 2.7 million euros in amusement tax. Of this, around 1.3 million euros went to the state capital Magdeburg, around 1.1 million euros to Halle (Saale) and 1.6 million euros to the city of Dessau-Roßlau.

By September 30, 2022, 107 of 215 municipalities in the state of Saxony-Anhalt collected around 5.1 million euros in entertainment tax. According to the State Statistical Office, 108 municipalities did not levy any amusement tax in the first three quarters of 2022.
