Saxony-Anhalt: Center for battery and fuel cell tests opened

Barleben (dpa/sa) – The competence center for battery and fuel cells of the Japanese Horiba Group in Barleben has been officially opened. “This is an important investment for us,” said the head of the Japanese group, Atsushi Horiba, on Monday. The automotive industry is changing and moving more towards electromobility. “It’s important for us to have this technology.”

According to its own information, the subsidiary Horiba Fuelcon produces test benches for batteries, fuel cells and electrolysis on a production area of ??around 7000 square meters plus offices. These would be used primarily in the development area, said Horiba Fuelcon Managing Director Ingo Benecke. They are also used for testing at the end of a production line.

According to Benecke, around 150 employees currently work at the location north of Magdeburg. The building is designed for up to 340 employees. The construction of the plant cost around 30 million euros. The state of Saxony-Anhalt has funded the competence center with around three million euros.
