Saxony-Anhalt: day-care center contributions: the state wants to further relieve families with multiple children

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – Many parents in Saxony-Anhalt are to be relieved of the contributions for childcare in 2023. Families with several children in crèches, day care centers and after-school care centers should only pay for the oldest child next year. The black-red-yellow coalition wants to decide on a corresponding extension of the sibling regulation in the state parliament this week.

The sibling discount for children in day care centers and after-school care centers is secured, said SPD parliamentary group leader Katja Pähle on Monday in Magdeburg. “It is also secured the free training in the field of educators.” This is a good signal.

That’s not enough for the opposition left faction. “We urgently need a debate about more quality in child day care,” said parliamentary group leader Eva von Angern. The day-care centers would lack specialists, and many educators were also dissatisfied with the general conditions. A “fundamental reform” is needed.
