Saxony-Anhalt: dead baby at recycling center: detention after confession

Halle (dpa/sa) – About a year after the discovery of a baby’s corpse at a recycling center in Halle, a 38-year-old suspect was released from custody. However, this was suspended in the “same breath” against conditions, said a spokesman for the public prosecutor’s office in Halle on Tuesday. The woman is therefore no longer in police custody, but it is assumed that the conditions mean that there is no longer a risk of escaping. She made a confession before the investigating judge. The spokesman did not comment on the specific requirements.

The woman was arrested on Monday. A spokesman for the public prosecutor’s office in Halle said that she was urgently suspected of having left her newborn daughter unprotected at the later location in December 2021. The baby’s body was found by a passer-by shortly after Christmas. According to the public prosecutor’s office, they are investigating the woman for manslaughter.
