Calbe/Könnern (dpa/sa) – In order to be able to expand tourism along the Saale and make it more attractive, the Salzland district wants to build seven new landing stages for means of transport such as houseboats or canoes on the river. These should be created on the section between Calbe and Könnern in cooperation with the cities and municipalities, it said on Friday from the district administration in Bernburg. The start of construction is planned for autumn 2023. Provided that the requested 2.7 million euros in funding from the “Joint Task for the Improvement of Regional Economic Structures” program would be approved, it said. It is planned to put the new piers into operation from spring 2024. According to the information, a similar project is already underway for Bode.
New boat docks along the Saale are to be built in Calbe, Nienburg, Bernburg, Gröna, Groß Wirschleben, Alsleben and at Georgsburg in Könnern. The bridge length depends on the local conditions, it said. The construction project will be coordinated closely with the Magdeburg water and shipping authority and with the lower water authority of the Salzland district.
