Saxony-Anhalt: Police seized 170 kilos of cannabis in the first half of the year

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – In the first half of 2022, the state police seized a total of more than 170 kilograms of cannabis, 14 kilograms of amphetamines and 20 kilograms of methamphetamines in Saxony-Anhalt. This was announced by the Interior Ministry on Monday. In addition, almost 6,000 cannabis plants have been taken out of circulation. For comparison: In the whole of 2020, the police seized 93 kilograms of cannabis, 10 kilograms of amphetamines and almost 9 kilograms of methamphetamines. In the whole of 2021 it had been almost 260 kilograms of cannabis.

“Our state police are consistently fighting drug-related crime in Saxony-Anhalt,” said Interior Minister Tamara Zieschang (CDU). “The investigative successes of the current year show that she is very active in her investigations, sticks with it and consistently pursues criminals.”

More drug offenses were registered in Saxony-Anhalt last year. According to police crime statistics, 10,265 cases were recorded. According to the information, almost 94 percent of all drug offenses could be cleared up. “We have to start early and convince young people in particular that the only right thing to do is to stay away from drugs. Drug abuse can have numerous health and psychological consequences,” said Zieschang. That is why the police are also present in schools to explain the dangers of drug use.
