Saxony-Anhalt: Significantly more norovirus infections in Saxony-Anhalt

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – The number of norovirus infections in Saxony-Anhalt is currently higher than in the past two years. According to the Robert Koch Institute, 3,050 infections with the norovirus were reported between the beginning of this year and the beginning of November, Barmer announced on Monday in Magdeburg. In the same period of the previous year there were around 2800 infections, in the same period in 2020 almost 1600 infections. Before the corona pandemic, the number was more than 3,500 by the end of October, above the current value.

According to the information, noroviruses triggered a good half of all diarrheal diseases. They cause severe diarrhea and violent vomiting. They are often accompanied by abdominal cramps, headaches and muscle pain, exhaustion and, in rare cases, increased body temperature. They are usually transmitted via a so-called smear infection. The most important and most effective protection is hygiene with regular hand washing.
