Saxony: Police discovered protected animals in vans

Dresden (dpa/sn) – When checking a van at the Dresdner Tor motorway service station, police officers secured animals, some of which are protected species. They were placed in the care of the responsible veterinary office, as the police in Dresden announced on Monday. The vehicle was traveling on the A4 in the direction of Dresden on Sunday afternoon when the officials directed it to the rest area. In the hold, they discovered, among other things, six alpacas, two porcupines, eight black swans and a Parma kangaroo in mostly cramped cages. The 39-year-old driver could not show any papers that would have entitled him to transport the protected animals. Among other things, he is being investigated for violating the Federal Nature Conservation Act.
