Saxony: Police warn truck drivers of new theft tactics

Dresden (dpa / sn) – The Dresden police have warned truck drivers of a current theft scam at rest stops on motorways in the region. According to the police on Tuesday, unknown persons claimed that something was wrong with the truck and thus lured the driver out of the vehicle. Then another perpetrator gets into the truck and steals money and valuables.

Officials put up posters at rest stops on Freeways 4 and 14 to draw attention to the scam. There are also flyers in German, English, Polish, Czech, Romanian and Russian at several rest stops and motorway parking lots.

The police advised drivers to always lock the doors. There have been four such thefts since mid-June, each of which took place in the morning at the Dresdner Tor rest area on the A4 near Wilsdruff west of Dresden. According to the information, the perpetrators stole a total of around 25,000 euros in cash.
