Saxony: Schuster interrupts vacation because of forest fires

Dresden (dpa/sn) – Saxony’s Interior Minister Armin Schuster (CDU) interrupts his vacation because of the devastating forest fires in Saxon Switzerland and on the border with Brandenburg. However, it is still unclear when exactly he will return to Dresden, the ministry announced on Tuesday on request.

Schuster had already made it clear when he took office in April that fire and disaster protection would be a focus of his work. The politician had previously headed the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief in Bonn. Among other things, Schuster announced that he wanted to purchase police helicopters that could also be used to fight fires.
