Leinefelde-Worbis (dpa/th) – A 29-year-old truck driver was injured in a chemical accident in Eichsfeld. When loading intensive cleaner, the man suffered burns on his hand and arm in Leinefelde-Worbis on Wednesday when the chemical leaked from a canister and he came into contact with it, the police said on Thursday. Since it was initially unclear what kind of substance it was, the fire brigade’s hazardous goods train blocked the area around the 29-year-old’s van. Four residents had to leave their homes temporarily. The population was also asked to keep windows and doors closed.
Finally, the fire brigade was able to recover a leaking canister from which the liquid had leaked. It turned out to be a milking equipment cleaner that contained sodium hydroxide. Together with liquid, caustic caustic soda is formed from sodium hydroxide.
