Thuringia: Association: low tide on the Thuringian used car market

Erfurt (dpa/th) – According to the association, the hoped-for recovery on the Thuringian used car market has so far failed to materialize. Due to the thinning out of the market, only 65,174 used vehicles changed hands in the first half of the year, the Thuringia state association of motor vehicle trades said on Tuesday, citing figures from the Federal Motor Transport Authority. That was around 13,100 sales or 16.7 percent fewer than in the same period last year.

The demand is good, but the supply is scarce with rising prices, said association president Helmut Peter. Since there are still very few registrations on the new car market, there is a particular lack of young used cars. This is being fueled by manufacturers’ model policies, which are thinning out their model range “on the small side,” said Peter.

In the first half of 2022, 18,991 used diesels changed hands in Thuringia. According to the information, that was 26.3 percent less than in the same period last year with 25,772 diesels sold. Sales of used petrol vehicles fell by 15.6 percent to 41,620 (previous year: 49,333). On the other hand, there was an increase in electric vehicles with an increase of 157 percent to 674 vehicles sold. With 706 used cars sold, more plug-in hybrids were also sold (previous year: 425).
