Erfurt (dpa/th) – According to Environment Minister Anja Siegesmund (Greens), heat and dryness in June were more extreme in Thuringia than ever since weather records began in 1881. The average temperature was 3.5 degrees Celsius above the long-term average located in the period between 1961 and 1990, said Siegesmund on Tuesday in Erfurt. “In June, Thuringia was the federal state with the lowest rainfall in Germany.” The Greens politician spoke of a critical climate situation, which is particularly difficult for small children, pregnant women, the sick and the elderly. Thuringia wants to react to this with more heat prevention in the cities.
