Thuringia: State Forestry Agency warns forest visitors of falling branches

Erfurt (dpa/th) – The Thuringian State Forest Agency has warned visitors to forests of falling branches. Especially in forest areas from an altitude of 600 meters there is a risk that individual branches or even entire treetops will break under the weight of the ice and snow masses, said Thüringenforst in Erfurt on Monday. “It must also be taken into account that the trees have lost a lot of vitality due to a three-year drought and can be unstable,” said Thüringenforst board member Volker Gebhardt, according to a statement. Because of further snowfalls, which are predicted for this week, there is no change in this dangerous situation for the time being.
