Truck fire disrupts rail traffic

After a truck fire at the Hamburg S-Bahn station Elbbrücken, traffic on line S3 is further disrupted. The truck was driving on Zweibrückenstrasse around 6 a.m. on Monday morning when the driver of another vehicle drew his attention to the fire. The truck driver stopped under a bridge at the Elbbrücken station, the Hamburg police said. The fire brigade extinguished the fire with foam. The tracks for the S-Bahn and long-distance traffic on the bridge were closed, as was the Elbbrücken underground station. The driver of the truck was not injured.

Long-distance traffic and the operation of subway line 4 were resumed in the morning. The damage to the S-Bahn bridge is still being checked, said a railway spokeswoman in the morning. Passengers on the S3 line should switch to the bus line 13, which is served more frequently, from Berliner Tor. Travelers with destination Harburg could also use the regional train.

The fire was extinguished at 7:30 a.m. According to the fire brigade, around 40 men were on duty.
