USA The former president of the United States, Jimmy Carter, attended the intimate funeral of his wife Rosalynn at the age of 99

Rosalynn Carter, wife of former President Jimmy Carter, was honored by her family and closest friends on Wednesday. The funeral was held in the same town where she and Jimmy were born.

The former first lady, who died Nov. 19 at age 96, had her intimate funeral at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains, where she and her husband spent decades attending.

The former president was more than 250 kilometers from his home in Plains, Georgia, where he has received palliative care since February due to his delicate health. Carter, who was transferred in a wheelchair, was greeted as funeral attendees looked on.

Maranatha Pastor Tony Lowden opened the service with a tribute to “the life and legacy of the greatest first lady.” Rosalynn Carter was “not just the first lady of the White House,” he told the gathering. And she added: “she Served all the nations of the world.”

Rosalynn Carter was buried in the same plot she will one day share with her husband, the 99-year-old former president. He met her as a newborn and they were married for 77 years.
