This Saturday, Russia launched a missile attack against the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, and the nearby region for the first time since the end of September, and bombed the east and south of the country with drones, according to Ukrainian authorities.
Serhiy Popko, head of the military administration of the city of Kiev, said that a Russian ballistic missile was launched towards the capital at around 8:00 a.m. (0600 GMT). “After a long pause of 52 days, the enemy has resumed missile attacks against kyiv,” Popko said on the Telegram messaging application.
“The missile did not reach kyiv, the air defenders shot it down as it approached the capital,” Popko explained before ensuring that there were no casualties or major damage in the capital.
Ruslan Kravchenko, regional governor of the central Kiev region, explained that the Russian missiles ended up in a field between settlements and had damaged five private houses and several commercial buildings in the area.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported in a statement that its defenses had shot down 19 Iranian-made “Shahed” drones of the 31 launched by Russia last morning against the southern and eastern regions of the country.
