Weather: Near-record temps expected today ahead of cold front

It’s going to be another warm one.

Forecasters are predicting near-record temperatures across Central Florida this afternoon, but say cooler weather is on the way.

The high today is expected to be in the upper 80s, which is more than 10 degrees above normal for the start of March. It also is not far from the record of 90 degrees set back in 1918, according to the National Weather Service in Melbourne.

Forecasters expect most of the day to be sunny, with a light southeast wind. There is a slight chance for scattered showers this afternoon, but forecasters say most of Central Florida will likely stay dry.

Temperatures tonight should drop to the mid 60s overnight before climbing into the low 80s on Thursday, according to the Weather Service.

Things will likely start to change Thursday night, though, when a cold front moves in.

Forecasters are expecting more clouds and overnight low temperatures to be closer-to-normal in the high 50s. Winds are expected to increase, with possible gusts up to 25 mph, according to the Weather Service.

The on high on Friday will likely stay below normal in the low 70s and forecasters say that cooler weather should stick around at least through the weekend.

Extended forecasts aren’t showing any 80s in Central Florida until early next week.
