Auto: Tata Motors acquires Ford manufacturing facility in India

The largest Indian car manufacturer Tata Motors is buying a production facility from the US car manufacturer Ford in India for 7.3 billion rupees (almost 90 million euros). Tata Motors’ electric vehicle subsidiary is set to take over the buildings, machinery and equipment and all eligible employees at the manufacturing facility in the western Indian state of Gujarat, Tata Motors said on Monday.

Tata Motors, which also owns the Jaguar and Land Rover car brands, wants to expand production capacities. Ford, on the other hand, ceased production in India almost a year ago after years of struggling to make money there. German car manufacturers are also having trouble establishing themselves in India. As the second most populous nation in the world, the country is an interesting market. However, Indians are very price-oriented when buying a car and the local providers are very cheap.
