More than 200 personalities from the energy, political, business and media sectors have gathered at the XXXIII edition of the energy awards held annually by the Spanish Energy Club.

The president of Enerclub, Mario Ruiz-Tagle, began his speech by acknowledging and thanking communication professionals for their work and dedication to bring the energy world closer to the citizen. “Today, and I think this represents an important advance, society is aware that energy is at the epicenter of economic activity and its direct involvement in the present and future of humanity.”

After reviewing the current situation, and the vulnerabilities identified at this time, Ruiz-Tagle stated: “The energy transition is not limited to an environmental issue, but must also be the way to achieve a safer, more industrialized and more competitive Europe “.

Regarding the most relevant aspects of the coming months in Europe and in Spain, he stressed that “the Spanish presidency of the European Council will take on special importance in order to build a favorable framework for the present and the future”. “Regulation will be key to attracting investment, with special attention to speeding up administrative procedures, simplifying barriers, and facilitating permitting for an agile and orderly development of new systems.”

To achieve these commitments, the president of Enerclub pointed out the importance of “bringing closer positions and a dialogue between the public and the private spheres to join forces.” And, above all, to ensure that society understands and supports what is happening, to speed up the process and make “this transition a fair transition for all”.

Future Energy Award, given to Antonio López, from La Verdad de Cartagena. Sponsored by Repsol, the award was presented by Juan Abascal, General Director of Industrial Transformation and member of Repsol’s executive committee.

Energy Sustainability Award, for Alberto Sanz, from Vozpópuli. Sponsored by Naturgy, the award was given to her by Francisco Reynés, president of Naturgy.

Renewable Energies Award, awarded to Marcos Navarro, from Diario de Teruel. Sponsored by Endesa, the Director of Institutional Relations, Miguel Temboury, presented the award.

Competitive and Sustainable Energy Award, given to Ana Tuñas, from the EFE Verde Agency. Sponsored by APPA Renovables, it has received the award from its president, Santiago Gómez.

Circular Economy Award, granted to Paula María Álvarez, from EL MUNDO. Sponsored by Cepsa, it was delivered by Iñigo Díaz de Espada, Vice President of the Cepsa Foundation.

Sustainable Energy Infrastructure Award, awarded to Paloma Lamadrid and Noelia Alonso, from El Comercio. Sponsored by Edp, the award was presented by its CEO in Spain, Ana Paula Marques.

Award for Best Initiative with an Impact on the Citizen granted to Vicente Vallés, from Antena 3 TV. Sponsored by Iberdrola, he received the award from Gonzalo Sáenz de Miera, director of Climate Change and Alliances at Iberdrola.

This award is given in recognition of a personality for his long and extensive professional career and his contribution to the energy sector. In this edition, the prize has been awarded, with the unanimous recognition of Enerclub members, to Paulina Beato.

Paulina Beato has a PhD in Economics from the University of Minnesota, a Business Technician and State Economist, and was the first female president of Red Eléctrica, directing its creation in 1985.

He has held positions of responsibility in the public and private sectors, and in multilateral organizations, such as the presidency of the committee that designed the National Energy Plan of Spain, the IMF, or the Inter-American Development Bank. He has also been part of the European Commission Expert Group for the design of electrical interconnections. She has been a director of various companies and currently, she chairs the Barcelona School of Economics. She has collaborated on numerous occasions in the activities of the Spanish Energy Club.

The vice president and minister for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera, and the president of Enerclub, Mario Ruiz-Tagle, have presented this award.

The minister, after also acknowledging the work of communication professionals, has indicated that the energy lies in public debate and added that without the support of society it is very difficult to undertake changes.
