European investment fund manager STAR Capital and Belgian holding company Ackermans & van Haaren (AvH) have successfully acquired V. Group, one of the world’s largest ship managers. This acquisition marks a significant milestone for V. Group, as it transitions to new ownership from Advent International, a private equity firm that purchased the company in 2016.

The consortium led by STAR Capital and AvH brings a strong financial foundation to V. Group, enabling the company to further expand and enhance its strategic development. While the financial details of the transaction were not disclosed, AvH will hold a 33.3% stake in V. Group with an equity investment of $150 million, excluding acquisition debt financing. AvH’s portfolio also includes DEME, a prominent dredging company globally.

René Kofod-Olsen, CEO of V. Group, expressed his enthusiasm about the new ownership consortium composed of reputable, long-term investors with extensive experience in the shipping sector. The response from customers and colleagues following the acquisition announcement has been positive, setting the stage for accelerated investments in V. Group’s shipping and services platform to benefit customers, employees, and the industry at large.

Headquartered in London, V. Group employs approximately 2,900 individuals worldwide and oversees a network of over 44,000 seafarers who serve about 3,500 vessels. The company’s commitment to providing professional crews and high-quality services remains unwavering as it enters this new chapter under the ownership of STAR Capital and AvH.

As the shipping industry continues to evolve, strategic acquisitions and partnerships play a crucial role in shaping the sector’s future. The acquisition of V. Group by the consortium led by STAR Capital and AvH underscores the confidence in the company’s potential for growth and innovation in the maritime industry. With a focus on long-term investments and industry expertise, the new ownership structure is poised to drive V. Group towards new opportunities and advancements in the global shipping landscape.
