Julissa Arce, a former Goldman Sachs executive, has her own immigration story.
Arce is now a US immigration rights reform activist in Los Angeles. She came to the US from her native Mexico as a youngster, and became an intern and later an analyst at Goldman. She quit Wall Street in a serendipitous twist recalled in her recent memoir, “My (Underground) American Dream: My True Story as an Undocumented Immigrant Who Became a Wall Street Executive” (Hachette Book Group, 2016).
Arce warns that curtailing HB-1 visas — which most people believe are used mostly by Silicon Valley tech firms to bring in coders from across the globe — could have a direct impact on the Street’s ability to maintain high-frequency trading platforms as well as conduct more esoteric trading.
