In spite of the Corona-crisis: Fewer bankruptcies in April

Despite the progress in the Corona-crisis slipped in April, fewer firms in the Bust than in the previous year. 1465 cases reported to the German local courts according to the Statistical Federal office by Thursday. The were 13.3 percent less than in the same month of the previous year.

A more important reason for the decline is, however, that the obligation to apply for Insolvency for businesses since 1. March 2020 is exposed to. In addition, the processing of applications in the courts, it can take longer, because there are operating only to a limited extent. Many Economists expect for the entire year, with a noticeable increase in bankruptcies.

In April there were the most bankruptcies in the construction sector, with 249 cases. Commercial companies including garages accounted for 231 of the insolvency applications in the hospitality industry, there were 159 cases. On average, the farms were larger than a year ago, because the creditors ‘ claims were just under 3.2 billion euros, well above the total for the previous month (1.7 billion euros).

The number of opened regular insolvency proceedings in Germany declined in June as in may. On the basis of provisional data, it declined in June to 8.6 percent in the period of one year.
