Income 2022 – 2023 How long does the Treasury take to return the money from the Income statement?

With the 2022 Income campaign underway since April 11, 2023, millions of Spaniards make guesses and calculations in their draft returns to check in the last box on the last page if the result is negative or positive, that is. , if it goes out to return or to enter. If a negative number appears, it goes out to return, which means that the taxpayer has paid more taxes than they were entitled to and that the Tax Agency will enter that amount into their bank account. In this case, the immediate question is: How long does the Treasury take to return the money from the Income statement?

The Treasury has six months to pay taxpayers whose 2022 Income Statement returns from the last day of the return submission period, that is, June 30, 2023 (whether it is done online, by phone or in person). Thus, the Treasury has a deadline of December 30 to pay.

However, the Tax Agency usually settles accounts with taxpayers before reaching the deadline and even before the deadline for submitting the declaration. Some people will receive the deposit in their account just a few days after submitting the return (usually when it comes to procedures considered simple and submitted at the beginning of the campaign), while other taxpayers will have to wait a few weeks or months.

It may also be the case that the Tax Agency enters the returns to be returned after the deadline, that is, beyond December 30. For taxpayers who are in this situation, in addition to the corresponding refund, the Agency must pay default interest. The citizen does not have to claim that interest, but it is the body itself that is in charge of including it when making the deposit in the taxpayer’s account.

According to the forecasts pointed out by the general director of the Tax Agency, Soledad Fernández, collected by Efe, the public body in charge of managing the state tax system will return 9,946 million euros in this 2022 Income campaign, that is, a 2 .4% less than in the past year.

In total, the Agency expects to receive 22.9 million statements this year, 3.4% more, the majority with a refund request -13.6 million, 2% less- and the rest, to enter -7.65 million, 14.2% more- or negative -1.65 million, 5.4% more-.

Regarding the amounts, the Tax Agency estimates income of 16,448 million, 5.6% more, and returns of 9,946 million, 2.4% less, which yields a net result of 6,502 million.
