Man walking bicycle killed after being hit by car in North Hollywood

NORTH HOLLYWOOD >> A man who tried to cross a North Hollywood street outside of a crosswalk while walking his bicycle was killed after a white minivan struck him, authorities said.

The crash took place at 12500 Strathern St., at the intersection with Whitsett Avenue, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart.

Los Angeles Police Department officer and collision investigator I. Murguia said on Tuesday the crash took place at 6:15 p.m. Monday as the man crossed Strathern St. outside of the crosswalk between Daha Place and Whitsett Ave. The minivan was traveling westbound on Strathern when it hit the man.

Before the incident, Murguia said, the man was riding his bicycle before he dismounted it, then was hit.

The driver and several witnesses stayed at the scene afterward and provided police with detailed information, Murguia said.

There are no drugs or alcohol suspected, Murguia added, and the deceased man has been identified but authorities are waiting to notify his family.
