Most expensive living artist: Jeff Koons has a new gallery

Jeff Koons is still the most expensive living artist thanks to his steely “Rabbit”, which was auctioned in May 2019 for eighty million dollars, even though the auction market has seen rather little of him in the pandemic year 2020 – and if so, then smaller works. Now he has separated from his two long-standing galleries Gagosian and David Zwirner in order to be represented exclusively by the Pace Gallery, which also operates globally. Sometimes in life, one stands professionally at a crossroads, Koons is quoted as saying; which is obviously the case now: the “exciting” change to Pace brings enormous possibilities; his huge, expensive sculptures actually require them. The first exhibition in the new partnership will be a one-man show at Pace in Palo Alto in 2022. Koons informed Gagosian and Zwirner by e-mail of his decision for the change, as can be read. Even though the market has not shown a rising trend for him in recent times, his prominence is still powerful enough to speak of a shift within the weightings of the art market.
