Negotiations are on track: the Federal government wants to buy back the Museum Hamburger Bahnhof

The Federal government is negotiating a buy-back of Berlin’s Museum for contemporary art. “The Federal government is seeking the acquisition of the Hamburg train station,” confirmed a spokesman of the state Minister for Culture Monika Grütters in Berlin on Sunday.

The Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart is the largest building of the national gallery and collections of contemporary art, which are among the world’s most important publicly shown collections.

The property is now with the Bundesanstalt für immobilienaufgaben (BImA) bought. Subsequently, the Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz, the Staatliche Museen to rent, the Hamburger Bahnhof.

The negotiations between the Federal government and the private Investor, CA Immo had acquired the entire property, close to the main railway station some time ago, “are on a good path,” it said. Grütters have already spoken with the Executive Board of BImA and CA Immo.
