Revolutionizing Passenger Experience at Brisbane Airport’s International Terminal

news-24092024-121335

Brisbane Airport is undergoing a major transformation to enhance the passenger experience at its International Terminal as part of the $5 billion Future BNE project. The revamp, which is said to be the most significant since the terminal opened 29 years ago, is driven by the need to upgrade security screening equipment to meet Australian Government standards by 2025.

Gert-Jan de Graaff, CEO of Brisbane Airport, emphasized the importance of this transformation, stating that the International Terminal serves as Queensland’s gateway to the world and plays a vital role in the state’s tourism economy and job creation. The upgrades at the International Terminal are just one part of the larger Future BNE project, which includes improvements to the Domestic Terminal, construction of Terminal 3, and various commercial and retail projects within the precinct.

One of the key enhancements at the International Terminal is the introduction of next-generation Computed Tomography (CT) security screening equipment. This new technology will allow passengers to leave items like laptops in their bags and have other loose items screened alongside their cabin bag, making the screening process faster, smoother, and more accurate.

In addition to the security upgrades, advanced self-service technology is being implemented at bag drop and check-in counters, thanks to a partnership with Amadeus. This technology aims to reduce queues and provide passengers with the option to choose between a self-service or agent-led experience. Sarah Samuel, Senior Vice President APAC of Airport & Airline Operations at Amadeus, highlighted the importance of this technology in improving the overall passenger experience at Brisbane Airport.

The introduction of these new technologies and upgrades is part of Brisbane Airport’s long-term strategy to prioritize the needs of travellers and enhance their overall airport experience. By investing in flexible cloud infrastructure and advanced self-service options, Brisbane Airport is laying the foundation to offer passengers a seamless and enjoyable experience for years to come.

Overall, the transformation taking place at Brisbane Airport’s International Terminal is set to not only meet the evolving security standards but also provide passengers with a more efficient, convenient, and enjoyable travel experience. With a focus on technology, customer service, and innovation, Brisbane Airport is positioning itself as a leading airport in the region that prioritizes the needs and comfort of its passengers.
