Sporty E-SUV: Polestar brings the number 3

Polestar, the sporty offshoot of Volvo, has now announced its third electric car in the form of an SUV. The Polestar 3 is said to have a range of up to 600 kilometers and will be produced in early 2023. Autonomous driving on the freeway should then also be possible with the e-SUV.

It was clear that Polestar would sooner or later also launch a purely electric SUV. What it looks like and when it will come can now be clarified. Polestar has announced the world premiere of the vehicle, known as the “electric performance SUV”, for October 3, 2022. The Swedes want to score points with the Polestar 3, especially in the USA.

The start of production for the electric SUV is planned for the beginning of next year. The Polestar 3 will then be built in China and the USA. At launch, the Swede is equipped with a dual motor and a large battery, the capacity of which has not yet been announced. The range should then be over 600 kilometers according to the WLTP measurement.

With the Polestar 3, the company, which belongs to the Chinese Geely Group, also wants to make autonomous driving on freeways possible. According to Polestar, this is made possible by the support of “Lunar’s industry-leading LiDAR sensor and centralized NVIDIA processing power”.

By the end of 2023, the Swedes want to expand their presence to at least 30 global markets. The Polestar 3 is just the beginning of three more vehicles to be launched each year. “Polestar 3 is the SUV for the electric age,” says Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath, explaining the idea behind the vehicle and adding: “With this vehicle, we’re bringing sportiness back into the SUV segment, true to our performance roots.”
