Summer movie cocoon: the children of freedom

The summer of 2018 was hot. For the sisters Jule and Nora, this means: whenever you are Together, just a few steps away from your quarters at Kottbusser Tor in Berlin-Kreuzberg. They hang out, deal with your mobile phones, have fun with the boys. In between, there is also a school, but runs more like this.

Once there is a task: a presentation to the question “What is abstract?”. Nora, which does not belong actually to Large, but due to injury not on a journey of their own class can participate in, surprised with an artistic grace lecture: she tells of a Butterfly that you projected at the same time, in a light installation on the wall. Together with the caterpillars, raising them at home in the youth room, is named for the image, the title of the film “cocoon” owes: Leonie Krippendorff tells of a pupation in a large summer in Berlin.

From Nora (an absolute discovery: Lena Urzendowsky) is a woman in this weeks a young. She falls in love with Romy (Jella Haase), an older classmate, she experienced great things with her and also disappointments. And this is all reflected in the face of Nora, which occurs with great courage, but also with a remarkable intelligence from the role of the group of babies out values.

the love is in Need of a name?

In a key scene she has a conversation with a teacher. The teacher seeks the confidence of the student, and also speaks very frankly of their discovery, that looks in the Romy’s something that tells her something about her own nature. The first impulse of the teacher is a liberal, but also defensive: Nora is at an age where you should about your sexual identity, no worry, it is all still in motion. Nora, however, want to make exact thoughts, she already knows much of, and it is also classified as a lesbian? That would be the term for it.

Later, she meets a boy who is madly in love with you, or would at least like a kiss from your get. He also presented the word “lesbian” as a proposal, and he goes well on it, perhaps because of his disappointment must not be so large. Because Nora is also kind of a Boy, anyway, she sees Romy a bit like one.

Leonie Krippendorff told in your second movie from a world that appears otherwise, more often in crisis report. That is Kottbusser Tor in Berlin towers with its distinctive living, the ubiquitous graffiti and an “Oriental” bustle of a popular Topos in German Film and TV is long. Just Neco Celik, who is “at the Kotti” really, presented with the series “Crews & Gangs” a new pop culture myth for the like once described dangerous corner.
