Saucon Valley ‘red out’ raises $1,300 for heart group

More than 300 students at the Saucon Valley High School boys basketball game on Jan. 31 turned the gymnasium red for a good cause.

The “Red Out” game, at which students had the opportunity to purchase a special Red Out game t-shirt, raised more than $1,300 for the American Heart Association.

The event was organized by juniors Erik Sundlof and Samantha Johnson and sophomore Sydney Oskin. Saucon Valley math teacher Lisa Allen performed the National Anthem before the game and, joined by her daughter Jessica Allen Peterson, shared a personal story about how heart disease has affected her family. Her grandson, Gabriel, was born with congenital heart disease. This was the fifth year for the Red Out game at Saucon Valley High School.
