99 child abuse cases: Babysitter charged

Marcel R. offered his services as a babysitter on the Internet. He was arrested in Wermelskirchen in North Rhine-Westphalia last December. The defendant accuses him of 99 counts of child abuse. The process is scheduled to begin in December.

The Cologne public prosecutor’s office has brought charges of multiple child abuse against a man from Wermelskirchen in North Rhine-Westphalia. As the district court in the cathedral city announced, the accused are accused of crimes in a total of 124 cases. The indictment consists of 138 pages. A court spokesman said it is currently expected that the trial could begin in December.

Accordingly, the 45-year-old accused Marcel R. is accused of sexually abusing children in 99 cases, among other things. 89 cases are said to be about serious or particularly serious sexual abuse. The indictment mentions around 20 victims between the ages of zero and 14.

The main suspect, who was arrested at his home in Wermelskirchen in December, had offered his services as a babysitter on the Internet. This is the way he is said to have approached his victims.

The accused is said to have made pictures and films of his actions. The investigators confiscated numerous data carriers when he was arrested. A total of 32 terabytes of data was confiscated. Investigators found around three and a half million image files and one and a half million videos on a hard drive.
