Cyclist overrun in Berlin: climate protest hinders the rescue of accident victims

In Berlin, a cyclist is hit by a cement mixer. The woman is badly injured. After the accident, the driver was attacked by a stranger with a knife. On the way to the scene of the accident, an emergency vehicle then expects another unpleasant surprise.

After a traffic accident followed by a knife attack on a busy street in Berlin, both the cyclist who was run over by a concrete mixer and the driver of the car went to the hospital. The woman was seriously injured, police said. According to his own statements, the driver of the concrete mixer was attacked with a knife by an unknown person next to his car shortly after the accident. The man was taken to the hospital with stab wounds. The police are investigating the accident on Bundesallee in the western part of the capital and the alleged knife attack.

As the “Berliner Zeitung” reports, there were delays in rescuing the injured cyclist because a special vehicle got stuck in a traffic jam caused by climate activists. “Our emergency services were forced to free the woman by other means,” the newspaper quoted a fire department spokesman as saying. Due to the traffic jam, other rescue workers arrived late. “The rescue was delayed as a result,” said the spokesman.

Activists from the Last Generation group said some of them protested on the city highway and disrupted traffic. The group cannot rule out that the vehicle’s delay “is due to a traffic jam caused by us”. She sincerely hopes that the cyclist’s health “has not worsened due to the delay”.
