Kevin Costner Stands Firm: Refuses to Shorten Whitney Houston’s Eulogy

Kevin Costner recently shared insights into his eulogy for Whitney Houston, revealing why he refused to cut it short at her funeral in 2012.

The Hollywood actor, known for his role in the 1992 movie ‘The Bodyguard’ alongside Houston, spoke about the emotional speech during an episode of the Armchair Expert podcast with Dax Shepherd. Despite advice to make it shorter, Costner stood his ground.

Reflecting on the moment, Costner explained, “I had been working on this speech… and I tried to compile everything I wanted to do and finally crafted this speech.” He dismissed concerns about commercial breaks interrupting his speech, emphasizing the importance of honoring Houston.

Initially hesitant to speak at the funeral, Costner was encouraged by Dionne Warwick, Houston’s cousin and music legend. He described the electric atmosphere at the church in Newark, where he delivered the heartfelt eulogy.

At the recent SAG Awards, Costner praised Houston’s iconic rendition of ‘I Will Always Love You’ in ‘The Bodyguard,’ highlighting the impact of her music on audiences worldwide.

While reminiscing about their time on set, Costner acknowledged the lasting impact of Houston’s performance in the film. He emphasized the power of cinema to create unforgettable moments, referencing Houston’s timeless contribution to ‘The Bodyguard.’

In a separate development, Costner discussed his decision to depart from the Paramount series ‘Yellowstone’ last month, adding to the actor’s recent reflections on his career and collaborations.
