Regardless of gender: Bahn gives employees the freedom to choose their uniform

Men in classic women’s clothing and vice versa – this has been possible at Deutsche Bahn since the beginning of the month. The employees could thus “wear exactly the clothes in which they feel most comfortable,” according to the group. The uniforms were designed by a well-known fashion designer.

Tie and jacket or scarf and skirt: Since the beginning of the month, Deutsche Bahn employees who have direct customer contact have been able to choose their own uniform, regardless of their gender.

“Train attendants, customer advisors, train drivers or service staff can use it to order items from both the men’s and women’s collections and wear them on duty,” wrote rail boss Richard Lutz on the LinkedIn careers platform. Employees could “wear exactly the clothes in which they feel most comfortable”.

A railway spokesman announced that a previous “traditional regulation” was adjusted after more and more employees had expressed this wish. According to the spokesman, around 45,000 DB employees with customer contact wear company clothing.

They were re-dressed in mid-2020 and have been in burgundy and navy ever since. The draft for the current uniforms comes from the designer Guido Maria Kretschmer, who became known, among other things, through the VOX program “Shopping Queen”.
