Rescue workers blocked: Criticism of climate activists is growing, the police are filing a criminal complaint

After an accident in Berlin, the rescue workers arrive late at the scene of the accident, climate activists had blocked roads. Politicians are appalled, climate researcher Latif explains: “The actions of the climate stickers are completely unacceptable”. A criminal complaint is filed against two activists.

After the deployment of rescue workers in a traffic accident, which was hampered by climate blockades, the Berlin state government warned the activists not to endanger human lives. “Climate protests must not endanger people,” said Transport Senator Bettina Jarasch from the Greens. If that was the case, then it was “simply appalling” and shouldn’t be repeated.

It must be clarified to what extent the activists are to blame for the fact that a cyclist who was run over by a cement mixer could not be helped more quickly, demanded Berlin’s Governing Mayor Franziska Giffey from the SPD. This is the job of the police and the courts. In principle, the endangerment of human life “cannot be justified by anything,” Giffey explained.

The Berlin opposition parties also sharply criticized the climate activists. “The life of a young woman is at stake because climate chaos is blocking the streets of Berlin,” said the domestic spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group, Frank Balzer. The judiciary must take action with all its possibilities. The penalty must be exhausted.

The well-known climate researcher Mojib Latif was also appalled by the actions of the demonstrators: “It’s terrible and counterproductive. The actions of the climate glue is completely unacceptable. These people are destroying more with their actions than they want to achieve,” he said “Bild” newspaper.

The cyclist was hit and run over by a cement mixer in the capital on Monday morning. She suffered “serious, life-threatening injuries,” police said. Fire brigade forces with special equipment were stuck in traffic due to protests by climate demonstrators on the A100 city highway and only arrived late at the scene of the accident, which is why the accident site had to be improvised, as the fire brigade emphasized. A spokesman confirmed that without the blockers there would not have been a traffic jam.

Activists from the group “Last Generation” announced on Monday that some of them protested on the city highway and disrupted traffic. The group cannot rule out that the vehicle’s delay “is due to a traffic jam caused by us”. The climate protection protest group recently caused significant obstructions on the streets of Berlin with blockades almost every day.

In the meantime, the Berlin police have filed criminal charges against two of the group’s activists. A police spokesman said the ads were written because of the failure to provide assistance and the disability of persons providing assistance.

The accident also resulted in a violent attack on the 64-year-old driver of the concrete mixer. An unknown attacked him with a knife and then fled the scene of the accident.

The Berlin police are now looking for the man who attacked the concrete mixer driver. The attacker is not yet known, said a police spokeswoman. The investigation into the attack and the course of the accident is ongoing.
