Rod Argent, Founder of Zombies, Retires From Touring After Stroke

Keyboardist Rod Argent, the founder of the iconic British bands the Zombies and Argent, has decided to retire from touring after suffering a stroke. He was recently in the UK for a successful Zombies tour and was celebrating his birthday and anniversary with his wife before the stroke occurred. Doctors have advised him to take several months off for recovery.

The Zombies, formed in St. Albans in 1961, achieved great success in the U.S. and U.K. with hits like “She’s Not There” and “Time of the Season.” After the band split, Argent formed his own band, Argent, which also had hits like “Hold Your Head Up.” In 2004, he reunited with Colin Blunstone, and they continued to perform together as the Zombies.

While Rod’s retirement from touring is a loss for fans, it is essential for his health and well-being. His energy on stage and connection with the audience have been remarkable, but the demands of touring can be challenging, especially for a musician approaching 80. The band fully supports Rod’s decision and hopes to honor him at future events.

The Zombies’ upcoming performances will be canceled, but the “Begin Here Festival” in St. Albans will continue, possibly with a special show dedicated to Rod. Fans are encouraged to hold on to their tickets for updates. Colin Blunstone’s solo performances will proceed as planned.

As Rod’s experience demonstrates, life is unpredictable, and we must cherish the moments we have. Supporting veteran artists and attending live performances can be a rewarding experience. The band expresses gratitude for the love and support from fans and encourages everyone to enjoy their music and stories.

In the meantime, fans can look forward to “The True Story of the Fake Zombies” podcast and the official Zombies documentary, both offering insights into the band’s history. The band’s legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.

As Chris Tuthill and Cindy da Silva from The Rocks Management, we appreciate the continued support from fans and the music community. Rod Argent’s contributions to music are undeniable, and his decision to prioritize his health is commendable. Let’s celebrate his legacy and the timeless music he has created.
