RTVE David Leo, 'El estudiante' from RTVE's El Cazador and winner of the Pasapalabra jackpot, prosecuted for gender violence

David Leo, one of the hunters from the famous El Cazador contest that is broadcast every afternoon on La 1, is being prosecuted for an alleged crime of gender violence.

According to the newspaper Público, the Prosecutor’s Office requests a year in prison for the man known as El Estudiante for an alleged crime of injury to his ex-partner, while at the same time charging him with another alleged crime of vexation and minor insult in the field of gender violence. The oral view is scheduled for April next year.

In relation to El Cazador, RTVE has reported that it “respects the presumption of innocence”, as well as that “the recording of this season has finished and the producer, after talking with David Leo, he has conveyed his intention to leave the program to not affect either his person or the judicial process in which he is immersed”.

Likewise, the Public Corporation is considering not broadcasting the already recorded programs in which David Leo appears as a hunter. Even RTVE is studying how to modify the head of the program.

The indictment of the Prosecutor’s Office states on February 25, David Leo, also a winner of one of the Pasapalabra jackpots, was at the Valencia hotel with his then partner, with whom he had been in a relationship for a year and seven months, when “with the intention of attacking the moral integrity of his partner”, “he threw a towel soaked in water”. He then snapped at her: “Shut up, bitch; let me sleep, stop talking to your mother; I’m not going with a cockroach; bitch, you deprive me of sleep, tormentor of sleep.”

Three days later, on February 28, the complainant was staying at a hotel in Santiago de Compostela, and he, “with the intention of attacking her physical integrity”, threw a cigarette at her face, struggled with her, He kicked her and made her fall to the ground.

The injury report provided to the court describes a left pretibial hematoma five centimeters in diameter; burn scab at corner of lips; excoriation on the left shoulder blade and left occipital pain.

David Leovigildo García (Málaga, 1988), Leo to his acquaintances, has a degree in Hispanic Philology and a postgraduate degree in Teaching Spanish. He has also studied literary theory, criticism, scriptwriting and film directing-he has written, produced and directed the short film Yin Yang-, psychology and casino dealer.

He writes poetry since he was 13 years old. At 17, he won the Hiperión Award for Urbi et orbi (2006), making him the youngest winner in the entire history of the awards. As a contestant, he has participated in numerous television programs, such as Saber y ganar (where he obtained the status of “magnificent” in 2013), Pasapalabra (where he won the jackpot after 109 programs) and El Cazador, where he has been working since 2021.
