RTVE Television signs a legendary winner of Pasapalabra to recover a contest that Carlos Sobera popularized 17 years ago

RTVE rescues “the most awarded contest in the history of television.” This is how the Public Entity announced this Wednesday the next broadcast of Jeopardy, the quiz show that has garnered 43 Emmy awards and will arrive “soon” on the afternoons of La 1. Produced by RTVE in collaboration with Lavinia Audiovisual, RTVE has trusted in the historic Pasapalabra winner Paco de Benito to take charge of what will be one of the public’s biggest entertainment bets for the new year.

The antecedents are not very encouraging: Carlos Sobera already hosted a Spanish adaptation of Jeopardy! in 2007 with so little success that it only lasted three months on the air. However, RTVE incorporates the added ingredient of Paco de Benito, who won the Roscode Pasapalabra in 2014, participated in Supervivientes in 2016 and competed in Alta Tensión in 2021.

The operation of the contest is as follows. To win a good amount of money, three contestants will have to test their knowledge, strategy and mental quickness. But they will also have to face an original mechanic: this is the only contest in which the presenter gives the answers and the contestants ask the questions.

Participants face three panels and a final question that contain questions related to general culture topics: music, literature, geography, history or gastronomy. Only the one who accumulates the most money at the end of the program will be able to take it home and compete again in the next episode.
