Sony’s Phoebe Dynevor-Starring Shark Movie Set to Film in Melbourne

Sony Pictures has officially announced that their upcoming untitled shark movie, directed by Tommy Wirkola, is scheduled to shoot in Melbourne, Australia. The film, set to start production in July, is anticipated to feature “Bridgerton” star Phoebe Dynevor in a leading role.

The decision to film in Melbourne was confirmed by Creative Victoria and VicScreen, who stated that the production will benefit from Victoria state’s Victorian Screen Incentive financing package. This move is projected to inject A$30 million ($20 million) into the local economy and create around 700 job opportunities.

While specific details are yet to be disclosed, it is likely that the movie will also take advantage of the federal government’s rebate schemes managed by Screen Australia.

Produced by Adam McKay and Kevin Messick of HyperObject Industries, known for projects such as “Don’t Look Up” and “Succession,” the film is written and directed by Tommy Wirkola, recognized for his work on films like “Dead Snow,” “Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters,” and “What Happened to Monday.”

The production will utilize the facilities at Docklands Studios in Melbourne as well as various locations across Victoria. Despite the confirmation of key aspects, further information on the plot, title, or additional casting details remains undisclosed at this time.

Phoebe Dynevor, renowned for her portrayal of Daphne Bridgerton in the hit Netflix series “Bridgerton,” recently starred in the thriller “Fair Play” alongside Alden Ehrenreich. Following its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, the film was acquired by Netflix in a significant $20 million deal.
