Setting up your own Medical Facility

If you are looking to set up a medical facility then there is a lot of pre-work required to be completed in order for the full initiative to be successful.  This is a pretty crowded market and due to the costs being pretty high in this industry it is really important that you have a credible thought out plan that includes, premises, recruitment, cost, speciality etc.  Here are some of the things that you should consider if you are going on this adventure.

Speciality

The medical industry is absolutely enormous and there are literally hundreds of different jobs or specialists.  This can include things such as doctors, dentists, opticians, consultants and nurses.  It would be very brave for you to start off being a master of all trades therefore it may be wise for you to dedicate your facility to one or two of these.  You should have a good look at the demand for these specialists in your area and if there are any more of these specialists medical facilities in the area that would be competition to you. 

Recruitment

Recruiting medical staff is not as easy as you would think.   This is mainly down to the fact that the staff will finish training in a speciality therefore it becomes a bidding war between facilities to get the right staff in their area.  In order to get the right staff you may wish to choose a physician recruiter to do this on your behalf.  Here you will find that they vet all the candidates and would have a catalogue of people for you to choose from.  Clearly the rates would be slightly more expensive doing it this way however a lot of the admin, security checks etc and risk has been completed for you and you do not need to worry about it. 

Premises

Getting the location right for your facility is crucial to its success.  Look at the population of the area and the age ranges.  A lot of information is available on the internet for you to do the research in advance.  You then need to balance up the price of the facility you would inhabit and if you would purchase this or rent it.  If you are a start-up then you may wish to begin on a rented facility in order to make sure you get your feet under the table and establish a credible business.

Marketing

With health care being so crammed in terms of different facilities and companies, you need to think about in advance how you would make your company stand out.  Customers generally like to go to establishments that have been recommended by others and have an overall good rating therefore starting out can be difficult to get to this standard.  If your pricing is correct and you market effectively via means such as social media and local advertisements then you have a good chance of people trying this out and hopefully recommending to others.
