Departures on vacation: a Saturday classified red on the roads by Bison futé

On the eve of August, the traditional crossover on the roads between holidaymakers in July and those in August will have kept its promises on Saturday July 29, with more than 1,000 kilometers of cumulative slowdowns at midday according to data from Smart Bison, which ranked the day nationally as red.

The peak was reached around 11:40 a.m. with more than 1,080 kilometers of traffic jams recorded on the entire national road network, an “exceptional” level, indicates the curve published on the website of the road information service.

Highway 10 (A10), which connects the Paris region to southwestern France, thus recorded more than 140 kilometers of slowdowns around noon. The region, still very popular with vacationers, suffered at noon, some 282 kilometers of traffic jams in total, more than double recorded a week earlier.

In the South-East, also very affected by these massive holiday departures, the A7 (Lyon-Marseille) recorded more than 130 kilometers of slowdowns and the A9 (Orange-Perpignan) more than a hundred, during the peak of midday.

The traffic promises, on the other hand, to be more fluid in the direction of returns, Bison smart classifying the day in green while the great crossover of holidaymakers in this direction should rather occur on the weekend of August 5 and 6. Only the northwest quarter of France is affected by “difficult” traffic (orange). Traffic is, on the other hand, announced green on Sunday in both directions throughout the country.

South Rush

In the direction of departures on vacation, the traffic was already very dense on Friday at the end of the day on the roads of the country, with again around 1,000 kilometers of traffic jams. Around 5:30 p.m. the information service reported in particular more than 133 kilometers of traffic jams on the 7 (A7) motorway in the Bouches-du-Rhône, nearly 50 kilometers on the A10 in Charente-Maritime and about forty on the A86 in the Paris region. Traffic was also dense on the A6 around Lyon and on the A8 in the Alpes-Maritimes.

In Ile-de-France, where the traffic was very busy from Friday, the traffic was very dense from the early morning on Saturday towards the toll gates of the “Aquitaine” A10 motorway and that of the “Soleil” (A6 ).

The A7 between Lyon and Marseille should also concentrate many slowdowns, especially on the Lyon-Orange axis, which Bison smart recommends avoiding all day, “especially from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. “.

Heavy traffic is also expected in the direction of Italy via the Mont-Blanc tunnel throughout the weekend, while the roads will also be busy in the South West, where Bison futé advises to avoid the A10 between Orléans and Bordeaux from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The slowdowns will also not spare the A9 between Narbonne and Spain, nor the A63 between Bordeaux and Bayonne, while Highway 13, between the Paris region and Normandy, may also experience traffic difficulties on Saturday late morning (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.).

Potentially violent thunderstorms are also expected on Saturday in eight departments of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, announced Météo-France. The meteorological organization has thus placed the Loire, the Rhône, the Ain, the Savoie, the Haute-Savoie, the Ardèche, the Drôme and the Isère on orange vigilance, warning: “It is advisable to be attentive to the situation in the context of heavy traffic on the roads this Saturday. »
