Everything you need to know about Euro 2024 in Germany

The UEFA Euro 2024 tournament is set to take place in Germany, with 24 teams vying for the title of champions of Europe. Italy currently holds the title after winning the last edition by defeating England in a penalty shootout.

The tournament will kick off on June 14 at the Munich Football Arena, where hosts Germany will face off against Scotland. The group stage will run until June 26, with the knockout stage beginning on June 29. The final match will be held on July 14 at the Olympiastadion in Berlin.

Germany, the host nation, last hosted the tournament in 1990, shortly after its unification. The decision to host Euro 2024 in Germany was made at a UEFA Executive Committee meeting in 2018, with Turkey being the only other contender for hosting rights.

Ten venues across Germany have been selected to host the matches, including iconic stadiums like the Olympiastadion in Berlin and the BVB Stadion Dortmund. Munich will be hosting matches for the second consecutive Euro tournament, following its involvement in Euro 2020.

A total of 24 teams will compete in Euro 2024, divided into six groups. Front-runners for the title include France, Germany, England, Portugal, and Spain. Notable absentees from the tournament include Sweden and Norway, denying fans the chance to see stars like Erling Haaland in action.

The tournament format will see the top two teams from each group, along with the four best third-place finishers, advance to the round of 16. The winner of Euro 2024 will go on to compete in the 2025 CONMEBOL-UEFA Cup of Champions.

UEFA has confirmed that squads for Euro 2024 will consist of up to 26 players, providing more flexibility for managers dealing with potential injuries during the tournament. Participating countries had until June 7 to submit their final squad lists to UEFA.
