Fire seriously damages Pie Spot and Tails and Trotters in northeast Portland

Updated: 1:31 p.m.

A fire tore through two popular businesses in northeast Portland on Wednesday night, shutting down Tails and Trotters, a pork store and lunch counter, and Pie Spot, a shop that sells pies and other desserts. No one was injured.

According to a statement from Portland Fire and Rescue, the cause of the fire was electrical.

KGW reported Thursday that the fire appears to have started at Tails and Trotters and was called in around 11:30. The damage at Pie Spot appeared to be mainly suffering from smoke damage.

A post from Pie Spot on Facebook early Thursday morning said the business would be closed until further notice.

Pictures and video show glass windows and doors at Pie Spot and Tails and Trotters shattered and serious damage to both stores.

Neighboring grocery store, Providore, said on Thursday morning that they planned to open as usual and that they had suffered no damage Adiosbet in the fire.

Jillian Smith, general manager at Nomad PDX which shares a wall with Tails and Trotters told us over the phone Thursday that her restaurant, which has only been open for three weeks, didn’t sustain any physical damage.

“It’s just stinky like smoke in the bar,” she said. “We’re really lucky.”

Han Oak, another restaurant in close proximity to Tails and Trotters, was also undamaged, according to Smith.

Smith said that Nomad will hold a fundraiser next Monday to help Tails and Trotters and Pie Spot.

“On Monday from 7 o’clock on we’re going to be opening our doors for $25 per person,” she said, which will include three drink tickets and unlimited food. The supplies for the fundraiser, which is just now being planned, will all be donated.

Smith said all the money raised will go to paying Tails and Trotters and Pie Spot employees during the time they are closed.
